Michelle Abraham
Trustee
Michelle Abraham and her husband Larry have been active synagogue members since October of 2006. Michelle attended a Solomon Shechter School though the eighth grade. After that, she was unaffiliated with any Jewish institution until finding Brotherhood which she and Larry tried because it was the closest synagogue to their home. Michelle works as a social worker at a cancer center and is learning to play piano in her free time.
Samuel Breier
Trustee
Samuel Breier has a long history with The Brotherhood Synagogue. He grew up across the street on Gramercy Park. As such, he has always considered himself fortunate to call the Synagogue his second home. He was an early attendee of Shabbat Corner with our Executive Director Emeritus Phil Rothman, the Synagogue’s Hebrew School (before the expansion) and Junior Congregation. After Bar Mitzvah, he stayed active — playing regular games of chess with Rabbi Block, attending weekly services, and, eventually, becoming co-chair of the Usher Committee.
With backgrounds in biochemistry, politics, law, and, most recently, an MBA, Sam is currently serving as Chief Operating Officer for his family’s Risk Management Consulting Firm and lives nearby with his wife — a medical student at Touro’s College of Osteopathic Medicine — and 8-month-old son in Stuyvesant Town (who he hopes will be able to attend Brotherhood’s Nursery School). He hopes to help expand outreach and programs for younger members and couples (distinct from their kids) and continue to coordinate the Usher Committee (with more modern updates), going forward.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was an avid sailor and skier, racing regularly. In addition, he has always enjoyed the city’s cultural activities: museums, theater and the NY Philharmonic.
