Our Mission and Vision
Mission
Brotherhood Synagogue, an egalitarian congregation in the Conservative Jewish tradition, engages individuals and families in a meaningful relationship to Jewish life and fosters connection in our inclusive community. In the spirit of brotherhood, we welcome all, whatever their personal identity or financial circumstances, who are drawn to serve God and society.
Vision
To foster a caring, compassionate community for all who choose to engage and participate, and through which our past and present traditions will be carried on to future generations.
Values
Brotherhood Synagogue helps build meaningful Jewish lives through prayer, study and community. We strive to embody values of:
Tradition & Continuity – “The world endures because of three activities: Torah study, worship of God, and deeds of loving-kindness.” (Shimon HaTzadik)
Prayer & Spirituality – “Worship is a way of seeing the world in the light of God… Prayer may not save us but prayer makes us worth saving.” (Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel)
Learning & curiosity – “He who does not increase knowledge, decreases it.” (Hillel)
Inclusivity & Pluralism – “All Jews are responsible one for another.” (Talmud)
Connection & Belonging – “How good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together.” (Psalms)
Social Action – “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am for myself only, what am I? And if not now, when?” (Hillel)
Commitment to Israel – “If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand wither…” (Psalms)
