Our repertoire includes a range of Jewish songs from simple to elaborate arrangements. The choir performs at a variety of community wide programs and celebrations. Though it helps to have sung in a choir before, it is not a prerequisite. The only prerequisite is a love of singing. Choir members are expected to attend all rehearsals. If you know any talented Sopranos, Altos, Tenors or Basses, please invite them to join us. There is no charge for this class.

Torah Chanting with Cantor Marina Shemesh
5:00 pm – 6:00 pm (8 Thursdays)
Torah Cantillation class will focus on learning the tropes, a system of symbols and associated melodies by which the Torah is chanted. Since ancient times, Jews have chanted Torah and other sacred texts using different systems of tropes. The tradition to chant rather then to read Torah is part of Hiddur Mitzvah (Beatification of the Sacred Act). The tropes also provide the text with punctuation, which sets off such units as a sentence, clause or phrase. Come and learn this important skill that will allow you to actively participate in our Shabbat and Rosh Hodesh services and to fulfill the mitzvah of chanting Torah. Some Hebrew reading is prerequisite. Textbook and CD will be provided.
